Day 17: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of those movies that shifted the landscape of horror films.  Over time, as more and more people were able to see it, it truly became a cultural phenomenon.  TCM utilized what can best be described as “guerrilla” film-making in a way that no other horror production had ever pulled off so well.  The behind the scenes accounts of the actors and crew are truly horrific as they filmed it at the height of summer in a house with no AC and rotting meat lying around as set decoration.  The movie is just straight up nasty (and not in a good way).  It is incredibly gritty, slightly confusing sometimes, and truly scary.  The beginning of the movie is a bit drawn out as a group of teens are traveling to a concert in the middle of nowhere Texas.  They pick up a strange hitchhiker that does some weird shit with a pocket knife who they eventually kick out.  Later on they stop in the country and break up to do their own things for a while.  Sally (Marilyn Burns) eventually wanders onto the porch of a nearby house while looking for her friends.  Big mistake.  As the action unfolds some of the most iconic scenes in horror history are born in a hot Texas house with a cast of people that may very well be insane.  So if you haven’t, turn off the lights and press play.  You’ll enjoy the shower you take afterwards a lot more.

  1. As far as the clothing goes consider investing in a pair of chaps, these are made of materials specifically designed to survive an impact from a saw whereas conventional clothing will be useless and instantly cut through (followed by your leg). https://polesawguide.com/reviews/best-gas-pole-saws/ Hold your saw (turned off) how you intend to perform the work and then think about whether you think it is safe.
